We are currently looking for partners to help with the following areas:
Web Article Search
Collect (or generate) current news articles to post on radiofreeafrica.org that focus on:
- Human rights violations of free speech by governments in Africa or the world.
- Grassroots political communication in Africa and elsewhere (particularly in authoritarian regimes)
Academic and Policy Search
Collect, and briefly summarize, academic and policy articles that discuss
- The relevance of free media to long-term economic independence.
- The historical benefits that the U.S. “Radio Free” programs have had.
- The history of speech suppression by authoritarian regimes.
Grant Research
Canvas various foundations and begin to create a list of grants which might provide financial support to this project. I can help with this process by providing a list of likely funders and a blank database to be filled in.
Legislative Outreach
- Examine the records and writings of U.S. policy makers for rhetoric that supports a Radio Free Africa program.
- Work towards setting up meetings with key policy makers likely to support the concept.
Technology Outreach
Make contact with radio operators, mobile (i.e. SMS) communications corporations, and others with a presence in Africa who might be able to participate in the development of a free media infrastructure
Locate Target Locations
Identify specific locations where free speech is under attack or denied and develop a plan to provide free speech in a safe manner to the populations
